How It Feels to Be Black in America Right Now

I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to practice activism. I’m encouraged to see white people posting on social media even if they get it wrong. I don’t want to villianize people for saying the wrong thing when it’s important to just say something and to signal “I’m with you!” I oscillate between feeling like Black people don’t owe anyone anything right now besides preserving our mental health and living to fight another day because it’s exhausting and overwhelming and also confusing when what so many people are articulating is how we have felt for years. But I do think that it’s important that our voices are part of the conversation, so I plan to continue to share content about how I’m feeling and processing what’s going on, people/accounts that I follow that may be instructive or entertaining and how I’m coping (#happyhouroclock) because it seems to either resonate with people who are trying to articulate the same thoughts and feelings or enlightening for those who are starting at square one. But, just because this is my manner of coping doesn’t mean it’s your place to ask for more than what I or other black people are prepared to give.
